After suffering through the market melt down at the beginning of this decade, many investors and traders looked for better ways to earn money in the markets than simply "buying and holding" stock.  Profits had become easy in the 90's, which in turn made many of us a bit careless in how we managed our portfolios.  Trying to trade the markets in the years that followed that "Dot Com" buble was difficult, hazardous work. 

The technology that made the "Dot Com" era possible, also allowed a maturing of the options markets.  A move was made away from the "open outcry" pit to an electronic exchange.  New options-friendly brokerages began to appear.  Now, the retail investor and trader had a new means of manging capital in these difficult markets while limiting the risk of loss...

...but only for those who truly understood how and why options work.
